RGN JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager, Area Manager, and Director

INTRODUCTION

Competence is defined in terms of the performance criteria individuals are required to display in the performance of their role. The competencies listed below are those that the jobholder is expected to demonstrate immediately on taking up the post.

They constitute the minimum standard performance which is expected to be reached and form the basic core requirements of that performance. They are not intended to be exhaustive and the jobholder will be expected to constantly enhance and add to their competence.

Whilst these competencies underpin the basic standards on which performance and progress will be monitored and assessed, the jobholder will also be evaluated on outcome derived from the key targets and performance indicators which will be assigned periodically following discussion. The ability to reach the required level of competence in the areas identified will be regarded as the very minimum necessary to fulfil the basic job requirements.


JOB DEFINITION AND COMPETENCIES

 

  • Demonstrate a professional approach at all times whilst on duty.
  • Act as the Named Nurse for an identified caseload of service users taking responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of their care.
  • Ensure that each patient has an accurate care plan and that a regular review report is completed.
  • Work in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that agreed treatment programmes are implemented.
  • Facilitate appropriate social and recreational activities for service users
  • Participate in the induction and preceptorship of new staff members.
  • Act as a mentor/assessor for students and/or NVQ candidates.
  • Contribute to in-service training as delegated by the manager.
  • Contribute to the development of evidence based practice within the nursing environment.
  • Regularly take charge of the home on a shift basis, as delegated by the manager.
  • Supervise junior members of staff on a shift basis to ensure that the needs of each service user are met.
  • Support other Registered Nurses to develop their nurse role.
  • Support the manager to introduce new developments within the home.
